Elementary First Aid (EFA)
Elementary First Aid (EFA) gives seafarers the skills needed to take immediate action upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency on board, until a more qualified person arrives.
Target audience
- All seafarers prior to first sea service
Prerequisites
- None beyond medical fitness
Assess casualty needs and threats to own safety
Apply immediate first aid and resuscitation (CPR)
Control bleeding and treat shock
Manage burns, scalds, fractures, and dislocations
